MALAYSIA The leading life insurer, Great Eastern, continues its commitment to protect its customers against the pandemic with the launch of its Covid-19 medical coverage program.
To help clients overcome the financial challenges of Covid-19, free coverage is offered to all clients of Great Eastern Life Assurance (Malaysia) Berhad, Great Eastern General Insurance (Malaysia) Berhad, and Great Eastern Takaful Berhad, with plans eligible individual medical professionals. which have the exclusion of communicable diseases requiring quarantine by law.
Under this program, Great Eastern will reimburse expenses resulting from medically necessary hospitalization due to Covid-19 infection in public and private hospitals. Reimbursement will be made in accordance with the benefits, terms and conditions of the clients’ respective medical plans. The period of coverage is effective from the date of hospital admission of August 18, 2021.
As part of its commitment to put its customers first and protect their long-term interests, Great Eastern will provide Covid-19 coverage without impacting insureds’ medical plan benefits. Claims made under the program will not reduce the Aggregate Annual Limit and Aggregate Lifetime Limit for Medical Plans. There will be no additional premiums or insurance charges payable, and no claims will affect future medical re-pricing, if applicable.

Since the start of Covid-19, Great Eastern has put in place multiple initiatives to support its customers on every trip in these unprecedented times. The RM2 million financial aid program announced in February 2020 has been fully utilized. The RM1 million Covid-19 vaccine fund was launched in March 2021 to help its customers mitigate the effects of the pandemic. An additional fund of RM500,000 offering free daily hospital benefits and death benefits has also been set up to help the general public who are not customers of the Grand Est.
As part of the Covid-19 relief program, the premium payment deferral initiative allows eligible Great Eastern policyholders to defer regular premium payment for three months. This is to ensure that policyholders continue to benefit from insurance protection despite financial difficulties. The program is ongoing and has been extended until December 31, 2021 from December 31, 2020.
