Zurich appoints head of Claims University
Terry-Dawn Thomas

Zurich North America has appointed Terry-Dawn Thomas to head Claims University, a platform that trains Zurich employees interested in working for its claims department.

Thomas will report to Doug Meyers, Director of Claims Operations North America. She will continue to work from the Zurich office in Atlanta.

Thomas will focus on creating a cohesive and collaborative learning experience. Claims University is part of Zurich’s Claiming our Future program, which provides employees with development and growth opportunities across all fields and levels of experience, the carrier said in a press release.

Thomas has worked in Zurich for eight years. Previously, she served as General Counsel for the Staff Law Office in Atlanta.

Before joining Zurich, she was a lawyer in private practice4 for 24 years. In 2011, she joined GEICO as General Counsel.

IAT appoints Senior Vice President for Claims

IAT Insurance Group, a Raleigh, North Carolina-based damage and surety carrier, has appointed Joseph R. Smith as senior vice president, property and domestic marine claims.

Smith previously worked for Chubb, most recently as senior vice president, responsible for field property claims. He led a team of 225 employees.

Smith has also handled most of the complex business and personal line property claims. During his career, he has worked in niche markets such as builder risk, third party administration services, housing, reels, life scenes and high net worth homeowners, IAT said.

Smith holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to his insurance career, he spent five years as a counterintelligence officer for the US military.

Charles Honner
AqualisBraemar LOC appoints Global Adjustment Officer

AqualisBraemar LOC, a London-based international insurance services provider for the offshore and marine markets, has appointed Charles Honner as Global Managing Director of Loss Adjustment.

The company said in a press release that its adjusters specialize in investigating and resolving insurance claims and commercial disputes in the energy, power, mining, petrochemicals, renewable and maritime energies. Key services include loss adjustment, expert witnesses and dispute resolution.

Honner is based in Houston. This appointment expands his role as Managing Director of AqualisBraemar LOC for Adjustment in the Americas. Previously, Honner was Director of the Singapore office of AqualisBraemar LOC.

Before moving on to fit, Honner worked for almost 14 years in the upstream oil and gas industry, as a process engineer for oil service companies and a global operator.

Honner graduated in chemical engineering and commerce.

Accūrō Solutions hires 2 to launch invoice review platform

Investors who launched Accūrō Solutions this year said they tried unsuccessfully to acquire an invoice review company, but ultimately decided to hire care management technology experts Steve Junker and Patrick Isaac to “build systems review invoices and workflows from scratch ”.

Junker has been appointed chief information officer. He works with executives and sales teams on customer solutions, the company said. Previously, he was Director of Numeral Technology, providing technology consulting services to workers’ compensation companies. His expertise covers medical bill review, preferred supplier organizations, analysis, document management and payment management applications. Previous employers were Service First Medical, CareWorks, MCMC, Universal SmartComp, and Litigation Solutions.

Isaac has been appointed chief technology officer. It manages internal technology, including application development and system architecture. Most recently, he served as Vice President of Information Technology for Paradigm and previously held technical leadership roles at Universal SmartComp, Align Networks and Adva-Net.

Based in Sarasota, Floa, Accūrō Solutions provides invoice processing technology and services.
